I can remember digging through my dad's drawer at a young age to find one of his white under shirts, hoping he wouldn't notice it was missing. Once I had an idea or a vision in my mind, I was determined to make it happen. I was playing with my barbies and I thought, "It would be great if she had a wedding dress so she and Ken could get married". So there I went, I took one of my dad's white under shirts, I dug through my moms sewing kit looking for anything that would help, I cut beads and sequins off of my mom's old pageant gowns that were for us to play dress up in and started creating.
I can still remember the wedding dress I created. It looked very similar to Meghan Markle's wedding dress but it had beads and sequins. The stitching was horrible but then again I was only 8 years old or so and I had no idea how to sew. I had almost completely forgot about it until I saw her dress and remembered the wedding dress I once created. I called my mom shortly after to see if she thought they might still have my caboodle in storage but that was wishful thinking.
Sometime between then and now with the trials, tribulations and hustle and bustle of life; I forgot about that little flame I once ignited when I created something special. Ever since Southern Chérie Boutique opened, that passion is growing more and more every day.
We unfortunately live in a world where society plays a huge part in what we see in the mirror. I struggle with self image, have battled depression and eating disorders like many others. As a young girl I remember shopping with friends and being embarrassed because the store didn't carry "my size". I want to help change the experience of shopping for clothes and what is seen when looking in the mirror. We were all created special and we should not let others tell us what is beautiful or ideal. This is why we strive to offer beautiful quality clothing in a variety of sizes (S to 3XL) for an affordable price.
Our boutique is new and I am learning so much along the way. I have so much respect for people who own their own business, it isn't always glamorous behind the scenes. Who knew there were so many options of vendors to buy from and not all are legit or trustworthy. But, when you have a passion for something, you will put forth the work and you can do anything.
I am a wife and SAHM (Stay At Home Mom) of 3 children, our oldest is in 4th grade and our younger two are 3 and 1.5 years old. The "warehouse" is currently our formal dinning room which is set up as a boutique because we offer personal shopping appointments. We are a small family business with one employee, yours truly. We don't know what the future holds, but I know one of my purposes in life is to use gifts I was given to help bring happiness to others. I hope you enjoy our boutique and become part of Southern Chérie family.
